Get ready for Visa’s Enhanced Merchant Data requirements
From 23 January 2027, issuers in covered European markets will need to provide cardholders with enriched merchant information through digital banking channels.
Visa Enhanced Merchant Data requirements take effect
What merchant data does Visa require?
Covered issuers need to make enhanced merchant data available to cardholders through two digital channels: banking apps and internet banking interfaces.
Required by VISA
Merchant T/A or DBA name
The merchant’s recognised trading or doing-business-as name.
Merchant outlet address
Required for Visa Consumer Cards for card-present transactions where applicable.
Telephone number
Merchant contact information where applicable.
Website
Merchant website where applicable.
Merchant logos are not a Visa requirement. Snowdrop will also enrich transactions with verified merchant logos alongside the required merchant information, making transactions even easier for cardholders to recognise.
Requirements apply to issuers in specified European markets. Issuers should check Visa’s latest rules to confirm whether their market is in scope. See our full guide for details
More context beyond the Visa requirements
Snowdrop can enrich transaction data with additional merchant information through the same API, helping issuers create clearer and more useful digital banking experiences.
- Geolocation
- Categorisation
- Additional merchant insights
- Contextual data
